Orlando: Reading and Math Tutoring

Classes Designed to Meet Your Child’s Needs

Prepare your child for a brighter academic future by helping him/her obtain the skills needed to fill learning gaps and to enhance existing skills. Our reading and math classes, with a program designed by teachers and school psychologists who understand best instructional practices to improve learning outcomes, are the perfect solution to boost your child’s confidence. Get him/her prepared to handle higher academic demands when the new school year starts!

How are our instructional programs different?

The state of Florida recently adopted nationwide Common Core Standards for all students, including English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities. These standards increase the cognitive rigor and task complexity of what the children are expected to know and be able to do at the end of each grade level. Students who are missing pre-requisite skills or have not mastered grade level skills will struggle passing the more demanding Florida Standards Assessment, which is based on these rigorous standards. Projections are that more elementary students will fail these tests and be at risk for retention. Now more than ever we need to support struggling learners by building their knowledge and skills before they fall behind, as well as continue to enhance the skills of those who are at grade level but will be required to perform at a higher level under the new standards for reading and math.

Remember, under the Common Core Standards, we must support the needs of all students year-round to ensure their academic growth. Let us assist you in ensuring success for your child.

Our staff is fully familiar and trained to raise the rigor of instruction to meet Common Core Standards and to tailor targeted support to ensure learning gains and acceleration.

Reading Success

Our reading lessons are targeted, providing explicit, systematic instruction in phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, text comprehension, and oral language. Our reading material will be selected based on what your child needs for academic success. We will provide the critical content and clear instruction to enhance your child’s reading skills. Lessons will consist of decoding and word attack skills through practice, which builds reading fluency. Students will have an opportunity expand their vocabulary instruction and practice using homographs and homonyms. One of the hardest skills to improve is Comprehension. Students will learn comprehension strategies during guided and independent practice by asking questions, making connections, clarifying, predicting, summarizing, and visualizing, while enhancing basic skills. Our program will address the specific needs of your child so he can be prepared to make adequate progress in his/her core reading program.

Math Success

Our math lessons address the number world by providing basic instruction to students that need reinforcement in basic mathematic skills and to prepare students to meet the demands of newly adopted changes in math academic curricula. Our lessons are designed to develop foundational understanding in each concept so that students develop on-level mathematical proficiency. We provide targeted, systematic instruction in number sense, number, patterns and relationships, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, measurement, inference, classification, reasoning strategies, summarizing, and data application. We focus on core content breaking conceptual steps and embedded skills to enhance core mathematics programs. Our program enables students to learn rules and strategies efficiently and effectively, thus ensuring confidence. Through the application of Florida Standards, we will review skills on the core level step by step, giving the student an opportunity to work in whole group, small group, and independently. Students will be able to handle math problem solving more easily.

Do you conduct screenings to determine my child’s educational needs?

Yes. Your child will be given an individual screening in reading and/or math so we can determine instructional level and tailor the program to meet his/her needs. The screenings are designed to work with our research-based instructional programs so teaching methodology is targeted, relevant, and rigorous.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Your child’s teacher will conduct ongoing progress monitoring so that you and the teacher can evaluate your child’s growth and make instructional decisions. Our ongoing formative assessments allow us to “tweak” instruction based on your child’s learning so that material being taught is matched to your child’s needs. This will ensure that our rigorous program is relevant and effective.

What is the cost of the program?

Our program was designed by teachers and school psychologists who understand best instructional practices to ensure improved learning outcomes. Programs are designed based on a screening and tailored to provide your child targeted instruction given by knowledgeable, certified teachers.
